She’s great with everyone - my nephew who’s a toddler, to my elderly parents, to my neighbors and all the other dogs at the park. I’m in Boston and was happy to fly to Chicago and drive back knowing I was going home with a healthy beautiful labradoodle. I’m no rookie and date an animal behavioralist as well, but he always has fresh advice when I need it post adoption. ![]() Additionally, Mike has proved to have been there with support and advice whenever I’ve needed it. He doesn’t miss a detail, he’s a great behaviorist as well and you can expect to get a smart, kind, and loving pup. My girl is a beautiful chocolate with a temperament I’ve never seen at a young age. He does his homework ensuring he’s only breeding with the healthiest and most compatible dogs - and it shows. But more importantly, Mike’s commitment to raising and providing the best pups has been unbelievable. I recently had the fortunate privilege of working with Mike to find my next pup. While losing my last guy was tough, I really think I found the best breeder/ambassador of labs/poodles/ and labradoodles in the country, or at least that I’ve ever met - and I’m a regular shelter volunteer and this is my fourth pup.For multiple reasons, the breed is perfect for me - the temperament, lifestyle (often on the water), and hypoallergenic fits a tough lifestyle. This ensures a healthy puppy, clear of genetic disorders. It is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE to purchase pups from breeders who have had full panel DNA testing done on their breeding dogs. ![]() Regarding Charcaol labradors- the identical principal applies- Charcoal Labs are black labs with a dd- as opposed to a DD color gene. I had my Silver Lab DNA tested by Embark- and He not only came back a genetically perfect dog, BUT as a purebred Labrador. They further explained that they have NEVER seen a Labrador cross bred with a Weimaraner. ![]() They explained to me that when they do a DNA test on a dog- they can test back 5 generations- this would be roughly 50 years for a Labrador. When I contacted them I asked them if they ever see Labradors cross bred with Weimaraners. Emabark is a professional DNA testing facility, and they DNA test ALL of my dogs, and puppies. I took this a step further and contacted Embark DNA. It all comes down to which genes are dominant. ![]() The majority of dog breeds carry this recessive gene, and if it becomes the dominant color gene- any dog can carry the Silver color.Ī great comparison would be two people with dark hair, and brown eyes who have a child, and the child is born with red hair and blue eyes. A Weimarenar has a dd gene which is responsible for the diluted chocolate color, giving the dog a silver look, along with yellow, hazel eyes. THIS IS COMPLETELY FALSE!ĪKC has done full panel DNA testing on Silver Labs, only to conclude that they are pure bred Labradors, with a recessive dd gene, and not a DD gene, which would give the dog a chocolate color. This wives tale was began back in the 1980’s, where the claim was that a kennel in Minnesota cross bred a Weimarenaer with a Chocolate Labrador- and got the silver color. While AKC recognizes Silver Labradors as Chocolates, and Charcoals as black, many out there are under the FALSE impression that Silver Labradors get their color from being bred with a Weimaraner. Silver &Charcaol Labradors have been a hot topic for years and years.
